About this role
S&B is a full-service Engineering, Procurement, and Construction company serving industries including Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Energy, Power, and Pulp & Paper. The Electrical Engineer Intern performs routine engineering assignments under close supervision, supporting design activities, equipment specifications, vendor evaluations, field data collection, and project start-ups.
What you'll do:
- Prepares basic design sketches and performs calculations in support of broader design activities involving the design of equipment, components, structures, or systems
- Conducts field trips to existing plants to gather operating data and equipment information
- Gathers data to help prepare equipment specifications, inquiry and purchase requisitions for approval
- Evaluates vendors' bids and drawings to assure compliance with specifications for simple equipment
- Participates in the preparation of equipment lists and load summaries
- Participates in preparation of design guides, guide specifications and contract proposals
- Participates in plant start-ups and field assignments as required
What they're looking for:
- Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Internship classification normally requires completion of at least two years of undergraduate studies from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Must have a working knowledge of various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment
- Must possess the eligibility to work and remain in the U.S. without sponsorship
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of the organization
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
- Occasionally may conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site
- This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus
- Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required
