About this role
NISC develops enterprise-level and customer-facing software solutions for energy cooperatives and communication organizations across North America. The Information Security Intern will support cybersecurity initiatives by managing security technologies, monitoring vulnerabilities, assisting with audits, and supporting security programs, policies, and procedures.
What you'll do:
- Monitor external security vulnerabilities on company systems and route issues to system owners for remediation
- Assist with information security audits, including annual SOC compliance activities
- Serve as a resource to other employees regarding information security questions, policies, and best practices
- Support the administration of information security and physical security programs
- Conduct research, analyze security-related issues, and contribute to projects that strengthen the organization's security posture

- • High School diploma or equivalency required
- • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in information security, cyber security, information technology or a related field

- Employees are regularly required to maintain a stationary position, move, and operate computer keyboards or office equipment
- • Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts, threats, vulnerabilities, and security best practices
- • Familiarity with vulnerability management concepts and industry resources such as CVE, CVSS, and NVD
- • Working knowledge of operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and macOS, and a foundational understanding of networking concepts such as firewalls, network segmentation, and access controls
- • Strong analytical, research, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with the ability to learn and adapt in a rapidly changing security environment
- • Effective verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
- • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and collaboratively, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate professionalism and ethical judgment
