Join a highly collaborative academic medicine team as a full-time Academic Hospitalist Faculty Physician in Charlotte, North Carolina. This position offers the opportunity to provide inpatient care while teaching and working directly with internal medicine residents and medical students.
The physician will join the Faculty Internal Medicine practice within the Department of Medicine and work alongside approximately 20 physicians. An academic appointment with Wake Forest School of Medicine is anticipated.
Position Highlights
- Full-time, 1.0 FTE
- Daytime inpatient schedule
- No scheduled night rotations
- Weekend coverage when assigned to inpatient staff medicine
- Approximately 2.5 days per month precepting residents at Myers Park Internal Medicine
- Opportunity to educate and mentor medical students and internal medicine residents
- Anticipated academic appointment with Wake Forest School of Medicine
- Practice with an established group of approximately 20 physicians
- Closed ICU environment
- No procedures required

Clinical and Academic Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality inpatient internal medicine care.
- Supervise, teach, and support internal medicine residents and medical students.
- Participate in clinical education within a highly academic environment.
- Precept residents at Myers Park Internal Medicine approximately 2.5 days each month.
- Collaborate with physician colleagues and members of the Department of Medicine.
- Provide backup call coverage approximately one to two times per month. Internal medicine residents take first call.
- Contribute to a supportive learning environment focused on clinical excellence, professional development, and medical education.
Schedule and Practice Details
This is a primarily inpatient position with a daytime schedule. The role does not include scheduled night rotations, although weekend coverage is required when the physician is assigned to inpatient staff medicine. Providers average approximately 10 admissions per shift. The position does not include protected academic or research time.
Training and/or Experience Required
- MD or DO Degree
- Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency
- Board certification in Internal Medicine
- Eligibility or possession of an active North Carolina medical license
- Interest in teaching and working closely with residents and medical students
- Commitment to collaborative, patient-centered inpatient care
- Fellowship training is not required
