Internship, Fleet Management Algorithms Engineer, Vehicle Software (Winter/Spring 2027)

Tesla is seeking an intern to join its Vehicle Controls team and work with the Fleetnet team on fleet-management algorithms for Robotaxis. The role focuses on analyzing fleet data, developing and deploying optimization algorithms, designing testing tools, and supporting successful validation and rollouts.

What you'll do:

• Analyze large-scale data from our fleet to identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency of the Robotaxi fleet (pickup times, deadhead miles, etc.)
• Design and implement optimization algorithms to manage Robotaxi fleet operations
• Collaborate with Tesla Fleetnet Software Engineers to implement and deploy these algorithms at scale
• Design and implement test plans and tools to measure efficacy and ensure quality of fleet management algorithms
• Collaborate with Validation teams to ensure regression are prevented and rollouts are successful
• Technical communication of analysis results and tradeoffs to decision makers and cross-functional teams

What they're looking for:

• This position is expected to start around January 2027 and continue through the entire Spring term (ending approximately May 2027 or later, if available)
• We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, Full - Time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships
• Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program
• You must be able to work 40 hours per week onsite
• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field with a gradation date between May 2027 – May 2028
• Fluency with exploratory statistical analysis and testing on large data sets
• Strong fundamental background and experience in operations research techniques used to solve fleet management/logistics problems
• Strong evidence of ability to ground-up design, analyze, and implement an optimization scheme for any real-world system
• Strong understanding of operations research toolchains and their trade-offs
• Strong evidence of ability to collaborate cross-functionally, work hands-on, and execute on open-ended projects in a fast-paced, resource-constrained environment
• Proficiency in Python and Golang, and experience in collaborative code development
