Internship - Investment Accounting

American National Insurance Company is an insurance organization offering a structured summer internship program with hands-on project work and professional development. The Investment Accounting Intern will assist with accounting and regulatory reporting, reconciliations, investment transaction research, data analysis, documentation, and financial reporting controls while gaining exposure to investment accounting systems and cross-functional teams.

What you'll do:

• Will assist with recurring monthly/quarterly accounting and regulatory reporting deliverables
• Prepare and validate reports, assisting with account reconciliations, researching investment transactions, maintaining supporting documentation, organizing audit workpapers, and performing data analysis related to investment holdings and reporting controls
• Support the team in reviewing data quality and assisting with routine operational processes that contribute to the accuracy and completeness of the company's financial reporting
• Work closely with experienced accounting professionals, participate in team meetings, receive coaching and mentoring, and gain exposure to cross-functional business partners
• Reconciliations & Journal Entries – Exposure to daily accounting work
• Exposure and participation in the SAP and Clearwater system implementations
• Investment accounting: Types of investments – Bonds & Stocks, some alternative investments

What they're looking for:

• Enrolled in an accredited college or university
• Junior standing or higher by the start of the internship; May 2027 graduates are welcome
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Available to work 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday
• Able to work onsite at the posted role location
• Pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Sound problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities
• Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and work independently
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy
• Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing needs
