Internship, Red Team Security Engineer, Vehicle Software (Winter/Spring 2027)

Tesla develops connected vehicles and the infrastructure and systems that support them, with a strong focus on security. The Red Team Security Engineer Intern will attack Tesla products and services, conduct penetration tests and security assessments, audit code, identify vulnerabilities, and collaborate with engineers to improve service security.

What you'll do:

• Breaking everything you touch and helping us fix it
• Conducting penetration tests against Tesla networks and services
• Performing security assessments on third-party services and software
• Collaborating with Engineers to develop secure services
• Auditing source code for security vulnerabilities
• Develop/implement automated systems to help spot known security exposures

What they're looking for:

• This position is expected to start January or February 2027 and continue through winter/spring term (ending approximately April 2027 or later, if available)
• We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships
• Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program
• You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site
• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field of study with a graduation date between 2026-2027
• Experience with secure architecture design
• Security experience in one or more of: C, C++, PHP, Go,x86, ARM, CAN, cryptography, reverse engineering, wireless networks
• Strong understanding of common web vulnerabilities with SQLi, XSS, CSRF and exploit development
• Strong penetration testing experience
• Experience auditing code and features
• Participation in Capture the Flag (CTF) events is ideal
