About this role
Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies is looking for a Junior Data Scientist to provide support for their government customer in Arlington, Virginia. The role involves assisting in technical and analytical support, developing performance measurement frameworks, and implementing predictive models and machine learning algorithms.
What you'll do:
- Assist the Senior Data Scientist in providing technical and analytical support to ODASW(CNGT) leadership
- Support the development of the MOE performance measurement framework by extracting, cleaning, and preprocessing large datasets from across the DoW CN community for further analysis
- Assist in implementing predictive models, machine learning algorithms, and statistical scripts under the guidance of the Senior Data Scientist to support threat forecasting and resource optimization
- Support the architecture of data pipelines and assist in building, updating, and maintaining data visualizations and dashboards (e.g., Tableau, Power BI). Assist in gathering data for briefings and reports destined for ONDCP and Congressional committees
- Conduct technical research and draft initial documentation to support the Senior Data Scientist in prototyping enterprise-wide data standards, guidelines, and best practices
- Provide analytical and technical support during interagency forums and working groups, assisting in the documentation of data-sharing requirements and technical meeting outcomes

What they're looking for:
- Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related quantitative field from an accredited university
- Foundational knowledge of statistical, mathematical, and machine learning theories and their application in evaluating program data
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R), database query languages (e.g., SQL), and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively on technical teams and support senior personnel on complex data projects
- Familiarity with, or the ability to quickly learn, DoW organizational structures and basic concepts related to national security or security cooperation programs
- Capability to operate within secure DoW data environments, demonstrating a working knowledge of basic data security and governance principles
- Be able to operate independently, proactively manage requirements, and require minimal government direction to achieve desired outcomes
- Demonstrate prior experience and capabilities for the successful execution of tasks associated with specific duty positions/focus areas (e.g., legislative, budget, etc.)
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, and the ability to translate highly technical information into plain language for effective communication with DoW and other USG staff in the performance of all duties, tasks and services
- Must be willing to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement
- Must be a naturalized U.S. Citizen
- Must have an active Top Secret/SCI clearance
