About this role
CodeHunter is a cybersecurity company providing Zero Trust for Code to help organizations assess software trustworthiness before execution. The Junior Backend Developer will build and maintain Java/Spring Boot backend services and REST APIs, work with relational databases and AWS infrastructure, troubleshoot production issues, and collaborate with engineering and cross-functional teams while growing toward independent ownership.
What you'll do:
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and REST APIs (our stack is Java/Spring Boot)
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and participate in code reviews
- Work with relational databases to design schemas, write queries, and troubleshoot data issues
- Deploy and support services running on AWS, following our existing infrastructure patterns
- Debug and resolve production issues, escalating and collaborating with the team lead as needed
- Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate ramp-up and day-to-day delivery
- Collaborate closely with the engineering lead and cross-functional partners (product, QA) to scope and ship features
- Continuously learn our codebase, engineering practices, and domain, and grow toward more independent ownership over time
What they're looking for:
- 1-3 years of professional experience as a backend or full-stack developer, in any language
- Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, debugging, and problem-solving
- Demonstrated ability to learn new languages/frameworks quickly
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs
- Familiarity with SQL and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment while communicating proactively
- A growth mindset — comfortable asking questions, receiving feedback, and building toward greater ownership
- Java/Spring Boot experience is a plus but not required
- Working knowledge of Java and Spring / Spring Boot
- Some exposure to AWS or another major cloud provider
- Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines
- Exposure to microservices architecture
Benefits:
- Remote work arrangement
- Ground-floor opportunity at a fast-growing cybersecurity startup with category-defining technology
- Direct access to and mentorship from experienced security industry executive leadership
- Uncapped commission structure
- The chance to build your own book of business and territory from the ground up, with real ownership over how you sell
