Junior Data Analyst

The New York City Department of Correction maintains safe and secure facilities while supporting reform initiatives and successful community re-entry for people in custody. The Junior Data Analyst supports data-driven decision-making by analyzing complex datasets, developing reports and dashboards, identifying trends, and assisting with data quality and governance.

What you'll do:

• Collect, clean, and analyze large and complex datasets from various sources
• Contribute to the development and tracking of key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor department performance
• Perform descriptive statistical analysis on data
• Conduct statistical analysis, including descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and other relevant methods
• Support the creation of reports, dashboards, and presentations to communicate data findings to stakeholders
• Help identify trends and patterns in data to contribute to decision-making and highlight areas for improvement
• Create clear and informative data visualizations using tools such as Dash and Tableau
• Communicate data effectively through visual representations
• Assist in exploring data for insights and potential relationships
• Support more senior analysts in data-related tasks
• Assist in maintaining automated reports and dashboards
• Participate in data validation and cleansing processes to ensure data quality

What they're looking for:

• 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
• 2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
• 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above
• New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview
• - Proficiency in Python: Strong programming skills in Python, including data manipulation, analysis, and visualization libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn)
• - Expertise in SQL and experience with relational databases
• - Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Dash)
• - Experience in developing, deploying, and automating server-based resources such as reports and dashboards
• - Proficiency with data analysis and statistical modeling
• - Experience with cloud computing platforms is a plus
• - Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a strong ability to coordinate and track multiple deliverables, tasks, and dependencies
