Junior Software Test Automation Engineer

York is seeking a passionate candidate with an aerospace and software background to expand its Simulation, Integration, and Test (SIT) team. The SIT department supports Flight Software, Ground Software, Vehicle Test, and Mission Operations. It collaborates with engineering teams to develop and maintain modern software engineering solutions and uses rigorous testing processes to validate hardware and software. The department also supports ground software systems for satellite communication, monitoring, and control. The ideal candidate will act as a critical interface between developers and internal customers, working across engineering teams to help integrate and test mission-critical software. ## Responsibilities - Develop automated tests with guidance from leadership and senior engineers. - Translate high-level designs and requirements into high-quality code. - Interact with other York departments to support testing using SIT products. - Support test-like-you-fly and test-driven development for spacecraft flight software, ground software, and space vehicle integration. - Write and execute test plan documents and use cases in collaboration with other York developers. - Perform troubleshooting and debugging of SIT tests and infrastructure. - Follow coding contribution standards and agile development practices. - Create and maintain documentation and user guides. - Contribute to and maintain CI/CD pipelines. - Communicate complex topics to non-technical audiences. ## Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. - 0–2 years of experience in Software Engineering, Software Systems Engineering, or a related field. - Demonstrated proficiency with Python, Git, modern Agile software development practices and tools, Linux, and bash scripting. - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and using them for development. - Familiarity with writing test documentation, such as test plans, procedures, and reports. - Ability to manage multiple tasks while delivering according to program milestones and deliverables. - Ability to proactively identify problems and communicate them clearly to leadership and/or senior engineers. - Proficiency in technical documentation. - Self-starter with the ability to pick up new concepts quickly. ## Preferred Qualifications - Experience with Docker, Docker Compose, and containerization. - Experience with frontend automation software such as Cypress, Playwright, or Selenium. - Experience with API usage and testing. - Experience with Software-in-the-Loop test systems. - Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop test systems. - Experience testing and validating satellite subsystems. - Experience with UI/UX testing. - Experience with databases such as SQL, Influx, or MongoDB. - Experience with C#. - Active Top Secret security clearance or ability to obtain one.In compliance with local law, compensation or a range is disclosed for roles in locations where legally required.
