Why does the job exist?

The Juvenile Probation Officer (JPO) is responsible for supervising clients on probation, supervised release, or conditional release to ensure compliance with court-ordered conditions. This position involves significant fieldwork, including contact within clients' homes, schools, and community programs.

The JPO supports Senior JPO staff by providing updates on client progress, compliance, and any barriers to successful outcomes. Responsibilities include conducting urinalysis testing, implementing and monitoring GPS tracking for appropriate clients, performing case management duties, and documenting all client interactions and attempted contacts within the FACTS/IMPACT system.

How does it get done?

Supervise juvenile clients through home, school, and office visits to ensure compliance with court-ordered probation and supervised release conditions.

Accurately document case activity in the FACTS/IMPACT system.

Collaborate with community partners, including law enforcement, schools, and service providers.

Conduct random urinalysis testing

Install and monitor GPS tracking units as appropriate.

Monitor client progress and address compliance issues through case management practices.

Clients served include at-risk youth and juveniles who have engaged in delinquent behavior.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate demonstrates a high level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability, with a strong commitment to working with at-risk and delinquent youth. This individual is motivated to provide guidance, structure, and positive role modeling to support behavioral change and successful outcomes.

The candidate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly and effectively document case activity, prepare reports, and communicate with clients, families, and community partners. They should be organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple cases while maintaining accuracy and timeliness in documentation.

Minimum Qualification

Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in sociology, psychology, corrections, guidance and counseling, social work, police science, criminal justice, juvenile justice, education, public administration, or closely related field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required education.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting. Late hours, weekend and callback work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Some travel may be required.

The following conditions are also applicable;

Incumbents must have a telephone and must be willing to give this phone number to the Director of Field Services;

Incumbents must possess and maintain a valid driver's license at all times;

Incumbents must be willing to be frequently on-call 24 hours a day. Work is in an office setting, client's homes and institutions;

Incumbents must be willing to travel, and be willing to work shifts, holidays, weekends and call back for emergencies;

Incumbents must be willing to work with offenders that have high-risk behaviors and require intervention or services;

Incumbents must be willing to work with potential risk from offenders who are possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol or otherwise distressed;
