Department Overview:
Craft Microbiome is a premier probioic manufactuer rapidly expanding operations in Madison WI. We are looking for motivated lab techs that are wiling to learn on the job. All necessary skills will be taught. Must be able to keep a lab notebook.

Lab Technician
Position Summary
The Lab Technician will support daily laboratory operations, including biological sample processing, microbiome preparation for sequencing, probiotic culture production, and finished product preparation. This role requires strict adherence to SOPs, quality standards, contamination control protocols, and documentation procedures.
This is a hands-on laboratory role critical to maintaining accuracy, safety, sterility, and production timelines.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Processing & Preparation

Receive, log, and process incoming samples

Split and aliquot samples according to SOPs

Prepare microbiome samples for genetic sequencing workflows

Maintain chain-of-custody documentation

Ensure contamination prevention procedures are followed rigorously
Probiotic Extraction & Culture
-
Clean and prepare samples for individualized probiotic extraction

Support microbial isolation and preparation workflows
-
Monitor and maintain sterile technique standards
Bioreactor Operations

Operate and monitor Caladan bioreactors for probiotic growth and production

Record batch data, growth parameters, and QC metrics

Assist with troubleshooting deviations in culture performance
Downstream Processing & Production

Freeze-dry (lyophilize) probiotic cultures

Blend probiotic formulations according to batch specifications

Encapsulate finished probiotic products

Label, stage, and prepare finished products for packaging
Laboratory Maintenance & Compliance

Maintain cleanroom standards and sterilization procedures

Follow GMP-style documentation and quality practices
-
Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment
-
Participate in inventory management of reagents and consumables

Assist with internal quality audits and continuous improvement efforts
Qualifications:
Microbiological Lab Experience or similar
Physical Demands
