Work Schedule

Full-Time: Typically, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Part-Time: Up to 20 hours weekly.

Appointment Length

About this Position

The Lactation Consultant is an expert in the management of the breast-feeding mother-baby dyad. This role acts as coach, consultant, teacher, and lactation expert working collaboratively with the Newborn nursery, the Pediatrics clinic and nursing care teams to develop feeding plans for a range of infants from the normal newborn to the complex neonate.

We will consider candidates for part-time positions. However, part-time hours do not offer any benefits.

Required Qualifications

  • Vocational/Technical
    • Associate’s degree, vocational or technical school degree.
      • (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Basic Life Support (BLS).  If incumbent holds an IBCLC and substantive clinical competencies, i.e., Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Dietitian, Speech Pathologist, or Occupational Therapist, it may be substituted for the preference of a Registered Nursing License.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of pharmaceuticals and the effects on lactation for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum patients and newborns to toddlers.
  • Excellent teaching, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of the breastfeeding process, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum health care, and psychosocial issues.
  • Ability to provide information and care with consideration of mental, emotional, cultural, social, and physical factors.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with a varied population including staff, physicians, patients, vendors, and other members of the public on a regular basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational/Technical
    • Registered Nursing 
  • Preferred 1 year of related experience and experience in teaching one on one or in small groups.

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

  • Valid multi-state or State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse License, preferred.
