About this role

Why UKG:

At UKG, the work you do matters. The code you ship, the decisions you make, and the care you show a customer all add up to real impact. Today, tens of millions of workers start and end their days with our workforce operating platform. Helping people get paid, grow in their careers, and shape the future of their industries. That’s what we do.

We never stop learning. We never stop challenging the norm. We push for better, and we celebrate the wins along the way. Here, you’ll get flexibility that’s real, benefits you can count on, and a team that succeeds together. Because at UKG, your work matters—and so do you.

About the Team:

The UKG Tax Department leads the Company’s day-to-day operations, including the filing of federal, state, foreign, income, sales and use, VAT, and other tax returns. The Tax Department also oversees and manages all tax examinations and controversy, business support, global tax planning, and due diligence and structuring of merger and acquisition activity.

The department is in the midst of a multi-year transformation to modernize how tax data is sourced, calculated, reported, and analyzed — working in close partnership with our Enterprise Systems Engineering (ESE)/IT organization and external advisors to move away from manual, spreadsheet-driven processes toward integrated, automated, and analytics-enabled ones.

About the Role:

The Lead Tax Analyst will be part of the US Income Tax Reporting team and report to the Tax Director. This role will be focused on income tax provision and compliance execution, and tax technology - identifying, designing, and implementing automation and reporting solutions that enable efficiency within the income tax cycle. The successful candidate is a technically strong tax professional who is curious about data and tools, and who wants to help build the future-state tax ecosystem rather than simply operate the current one.

Responsibilities include:

Core Tax Responsibilities

  • US federal and state income tax analysis for purposes of both interim and annual ASC 740 reporting and US corporate income tax compliance;
  • US income tax compliance, extensions, and quarterly estimated payments;
  • US tax credits and incentives, including support of the annual R&D credit study and related documentation;
  • Preparation and review of tax account reconciliations, tax payable proofs, deferred inventories, and return-to-provision true-ups;
  • Organize, research, and respond to federal and state tax notices, and maintain the notice tracking log;
  • Assist with and support federal, state, and foreign tax examinations, including data gathering and information document request (IDR) responses;
  • Maintain SOX documentation and evidence for assigned tax controls, and support internal and external audit requests;
  • Support initiatives undertaken by the Global Indirect Tax, International Tax, and Treasury teams;
  • Monitor federal and state legislative developments and assist in assessing the impact on UKG’s provision, compliance, and forecasting.

Tax Technology Responsibilities

This role is expected to be an active driver of the department’s technology agenda, not a passive user of its tools.

  • Partnering with ESE/IT and the business
  • Serve as a day-to-day liaison between the Tax Department and the Enterprise Systems Engineering (ESE)/IT organization — translating tax requirements into clear, actionable technical requirements and user stories;
  • Support the tax technology roadmap in partnership with ESE/IT, Finance Systems, and external advisors; help prioritize the project pipeline and track progress against milestones;
  • Participate in ERP, data warehouse, and enterprise reporting initiatives to ensure tax requirements are represented early, including tax-sensitizing source data at the point of entry (chart of accounts, legal entity structure, inter-company, and jurisdictional attributes);
  • Partner with GL/Controllership, FP&A, and Technical Accounting to improve the quality, timeliness, and consistency of data flowing into the tax ecosystem;
  • Coordinate with software vendors and external advisors on implementations, upgrades, licensing, training, and issue resolution.
    Building efficiencies through technology
  • Identify, prioritize, and drive opportunities to use technology to gain efficiency, quality, transparency, reporting capability, and standardization across UKG Tax Department;
  • Design, build, test, document, and maintain automated workflows and data pipelines that eliminate repetitive manual effort;
  • Administer and optimize the department’s core tax applications (including ONESOURCE Income Tax and ONESOURCE Tax Provision);
  • Evaluate and pilot emerging capabilities, including AI and Copilot-enabled workflows, and recommend where they can responsibly be applied to tax processes;
  • Document standardized processes, build reusable templates, and create training materials; act as an internal resource and coach to upskill the broader tax team on new tools;
  • Measure and report the impact of automation initiatives (hours saved, cycle-time reduction, error reduction) to support continued investment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, or a tax concentration within an accounting program;
  • 5+ years of public accounting or corporate tax experience;
  • Strong working knowledge of ASC 740;
  • Solid understanding of US federal and state corporate income tax compliance;
  • Proficient in Word and advanced Excel skills (complex formulas, pivot tables, large data sets);
  • Demonstrated interest and aptitude in applying technology to tax processes, with a track record of improving or automating at least one meaningful process;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and the ability to reconcile and tie out data across multiple systems and workpapers;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both tax and non-tax audiences;
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables under compressed close and filing deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ONESOURCE Income Tax and ONESOURCE Tax Provision experience;
  • Hands-on experience with Alteryx, Power Query, Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps, or similar workflow, ETL, and reporting tools;
  • Experience working with APIs, data warehouses, or ERP systems (D365, Oracle, SAP) in a tax or finance context;
  • Experience partnering with IT or enterprise systems teams on requirements gathering and solution delivery;
  • Familiarity with the international aspects of the US tax code;
  • Exposure to SQL, Python, or similar scripting for data manipulation;
  • CPA or CPA-eligible.
