THE POSITION
Are you a highly organized and detail oriented professional who is ready to advance your skills in a fast paced legal environment as a Legal Assistant 2 with the Pennsylvania State Police? This position gives you the chance to work with complex records and legal requests that require focused attention. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports legal processes by reviewing, processing, and analyzing a wide range of public record and subpoena requests. The role requires careful judgment, thorough research and consistent adherence to legal standards. As a Legal Assistant 2, you will perform the following duties:
- Right to Know: Serve as a Deputy Agency Open Records Officer, processing public information requests and making independent approval or denial decisions
- Legal Research: Review legislation, regulations, and court decisions to ensure accurate and lawful responses
- Subpoena Management: Log, track, and interpret subpoenas and coordinate record provision to attorneys and agencies
- Confidential Records: Handle sensitive materials and apply proper redactions in line with legal requirements
- Agency Coordination: Communicate with attorneys, departments, and external partners to resolve issues and clarify procedures
- Document Review: Inspect legal materials for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental standards

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Organization or Location Restrictions:
- This posting is restricted to Pennsylvania State Police employees only.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as a Legal Assistant 1; or
- Four years of responsible clerical, investigative or enforcement work including one year of legal clerical support experience; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirement:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding. If no applicable union-covered bidders apply, other applicants may be considered.

- Seniority/Promotion Unit: 019 - Pennsylvania State Police Headquarters including Academy and Troops H (all stations) and T (Highspire and Newville).
Permanent full-time Legal Assistant 2s can be considered for lateral transfer.
