Job Summary:
The Surgical Procedural Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for preparing the operating room or endoscopy suite for assigned procedures and ensuring a safe, efficient, and sterile environment. In the operating room, the Surgical Procedural LPN establishes and maintains the sterile field, prepares surgical instruments and supplies, and assists the surgeon and surgical team throughout operative procedures. In the endoscopy suite, the Surgical Procedural LPN may provide direct bedside assistance during procedures or serve as the room nurse, supporting patient care, procedural workflow, and adherence to clinical, safety, and regulatory standards.
Education:
Required:
-Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) program.

-Clinical proficiency in sterile and aseptic techniques, including the ability to use this knowledge to support safe and effective patient care before and during surgical procedures.
Preferred:
-One to two years of procedural nursing experience
Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required:
-Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of practice.
-LPN licensure by endorsement must be obtained within 3 months of hire if currently licensed in another state and residing in Tennessee or North Carolina.
-Basic Life Support (BLS) completed prior to going to the unit and maintained going forward.

Department Position Summary:
Under direct and frequent supervision, the procedural LPN is responsible for the preparation of the operating room or endoscopy suite for assigned cases. In the operating room setting the procedural LPN sets and maintains the sterile field and assists the surgeon throughout surgical procedures. In the endoscopy suite the procedural LPN may assist directly with the procedure at the bedside or perform as the room nurse during the procedure. The procedural LPN is responsible for performing own job duties in the Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age patients. He/she anticipates the needs of the doctor before and during the procedure, assists in clean-up of the room and instruments after the procedure, takes surgery or endoscopy call.
