Position Summary

The Machinist Training & Development Coordinator develops and manages a structured program that moves new and developing machinists from onboarding through demonstrated competency, independent machine operation, setup capability, and cross-training. Working with Operations, experienced machinists, supervisors, and Human Resources, the Coordinator ensures employees receive effective instruction, hands-on practice, coaching, resources, and objective evaluations before advancing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Development and Onboarding

Build and maintain the training framework, learning objectives, competency levels, job aids, checklists, and certification requirements. Create individual onboarding plans and coordinate access to qualified trainers, equipment, tools, documentation, and practice.

Hands-On Training, Assessment, and Certification

Coordinate and, where qualified, provide instruction in machine operation, tooling, drawings, measurement, inspection, troubleshooting, and setup. Administer objective, performance-based evaluations and certify skills only after employees demonstrate safe, independent production of conforming parts.

Employee Progression, Coaching, and Program Effectiveness

  • Monitor progress against defined milestones and maintain current individual development plans and skills matrices.
  • Conduct regular reviews, identify skill gaps, and coordinate additional coaching, practice, or remedial training.
  • Give employees clear feedback on demonstrated skills, remaining requirements, next milestones, and certification expectations.
  • Serve as the primary contact for trainees and reinforce accountability for learners, trainers, and supervisors.
  • Identify qualified trainers and subject matter experts; establish consistent expectations for instruction and evaluation.
  • Coordinate training schedules with production needs and keep supervisors informed of progress and development gaps.
  • Track onboarding, progression, certification, setup capability, cross-training, and recurring gaps; update the program as business needs change.

Qualifications

Required

  • Prior hands-on experience as a CNC machinist is required, with demonstrated proficiency in machine operation and setup, tooling, blueprint reading, precision measurement, inspection, troubleshooting, and the safe production of conforming parts.
  • Ability to translate technical requirements into structured training, competency standards, and practical evaluations.
  • Minimum of two years of experience training, coaching, or developing machinists or other manufacturing employees, including organizing training, following up on progress, documenting competency, and providing objective developmental feedback.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across machinists, supervisors, technical experts, Operations leadership, and Human Resources.

Preferred

Experience with mill-turn CNC equipment, experience as a manufacturing trainer, or technical trainer; machine setup and multi-machine experience; and knowledge of drawings, measurement, inspection, tooling, CNC machining, competency matrices, and certification programs.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
