About this role
Macy’s is a major retail company offering stores and digital shopping channels. The Executive Development Program – Merchandising – Buying provides recent graduates with hands-on training and business exposure while supporting merchandise assortment planning, sales and profitability analysis, purchasing, and vendor coordination. Successful participants may advance into an Assistant-level position.
What you'll do:
- Receive professional development through a combination of hands-on learning, structured workshops, and collaborative projects
- Build relationships with business leaders and team colleagues
- Attend and participate in weekly business meetings to review and recap sales performance
- Analyze business performance metrics and make recommendations to maximize the business based on trends
- Collaborate with the team to develop an assortment strategy for key items and fashion
- Competitive shop to analyze competitor pricing and trends
- Assist in creating purchase orders
- Track in-season receipts and resolve shipping issues with vendors
- Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality
What they're looking for:
- Senior pursuing a bachelor's degree with a strong academic record; All majors will be considered
- Strong retail math, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial and business performance metrics, identify trends, and translate data into actionable business recommendations
- Advanced Excel proficiency, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, reporting, and data analysis, with the ability to leverage data to support business decisions
- Understanding of retail math concepts, including sales, margin, markup, inventory productivity, turn, profitability analysis, merchandising, and assortment planning
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation, storytelling, and influencing abilities
- Ability to read, write, and interpret reports, procedures, and other business documents
- Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment while collaborating effectively with cross-functional business partners
- Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, relationship-building, and process improvement skills, with a strong sense of accountability, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy
- High aptitude for learning quickly, making sound decisions, solving complex business challenges, and utilizing business systems and reporting tools
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs
- Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred
