About the Department

OUR MISSION
The Red River, Atchafalaya & Bayou Boeuf Levee District serves portions of Avoyelles, Rapides & St. Landry parishes. Levees in the district include Red River Levee, Big Bend-Bayou Des Glaises Loop Levee, Rigolette Levee, Mansura Hills to Hamburg Levee, Bayou Des Glaises Fuse Plug Levee, West Atchafalaya River Levee, and West Atchafalaya Basin Protection Levee. The District has 5 commissioners. There are 19 employees, with maintenance crews in each parish. Heavy equipment is maintained for levee and drainage maintenance

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
The Maintenance Repairer 2 position is a valuable part of the Red River, Atchafalaya & Bayou Boeuf Levee District because of their function of work to repair and maintain buildings, facilities, and equipment, along with levee board projects and other tasks. Assist other RRABB employees in completing levee board projects. This incumbent will work under the supervision of the Levee Maintenance Manager. 

Position Duties

Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR

Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering; OR

Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.

Other Qualifications

Job Duties:

• Will make general repairs to and maintain all of RRABB’s buildings, shops, pump control stations, etc.  These facilities include, but not limited to, the following: 

  • Bayou Rapides Pump Station 

  • Spanish Bayou Pump Station  

  • Alexandria Main Office 

  •  Alexandria Shop  

  • Marksville Shop 

  • Melville Shop  

  • A dozen plus flood control structures located in Rapides, Avoyelles and St. Landry Parishes 

• General repairs and maintenance include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Pump Stations and flood control structures: 

    • Repair and maintain motorized equipment such as electric/manual actuators, pump/motor assemblies, vacuum breakers, etc. 

    • Lubricates lift gate stems (at all locations), lubricates pumps and pump motors, all according to manufacturer’s recommendations.  Record activities in log books.

    • Performs start/stop operations on many flood controls mechanisms.  Including pumps, actuators, manual lift gates, etc.  Record activities in log books. 

  • Parish shops and Main Office: 

    • Painting projects, including: office/shop walls, ceilings, parking lots, exterior, etc.  

    • Changing air filters and performing general maintenance and inspection on A/C systems and other electrical systems.  

    • Perform critical welding operations on shop equipment and tools.  Weld mechanical parts for repair or for manufacturing. 

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Promotion - only permanent employees from Red River, Atchafalaya & Bayou Boeuf Levee District will be considered 
Career Progression: This position does participate in a Career Progression Group and may be filled as a Mobile Equipment Operator 2 or Mobile Equipment Operator 1/Heavy.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
