Posting Details

District Five is one of six districts of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The boundaries of District Five include the following counties: Torrance, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Taos, and San Juan. Employees in the District are responsible for providing the Maintenance, Construction, Engineering Support, and Business support measures of the Department to ensure
the safety of the public as well as efficient highways.

This job is located in the SF-District Five Office.

As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date.
This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.

Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within Two (2) weeks of Closing Date.

Why does the job exist?

To keep roads open and in good condition. Ensure adequate staffing levels and appropriate schedules. To serve as a public relations representative. Be a good steward of public funds. Build and maintain maintenance forces to execute the mission of the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT). Promote and further a documented basis for direction and growth of
maintenance patrols.

How does it get done?

Direct maintenance patrol foremen to perform the jobs to maintain roadway operations and safety. Create work schedules and teams adequate to the assigned task and schedule staffing for 24 hr operations. Field questions and respond to inquiries from the public.

Who are the customers?

Internal NMDOT employees and the traveling public.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:

-Maintenance Management system,
-SHARE system,
-Budget,
-Contract maintenance,
-Management/supervision of employees, and,
-Procurement experience to include statewide price agreements.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of professional level experience with a light strategic impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling twelve (12) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include management, supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Employment Requirements

This position is designated a safety sensitive position within the meaning of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and must abide by all provisions of the Federal Omnibus Transportation Testing Act. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment requires successful completion of a post-offer physical and pre-employment drug test; employment is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and a Class A Commercial Driver's License at the time of hire.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage to include working with faxes, copiers, and printers. May be required to work irregular hours and is subject to call out for weather, accidents and/or emergencies on short notice; willingness to accept change of geographical assignments; interaction with the public. Work is also performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions - hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow; exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash; exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals and/or asphalt and petroleum products; exposure to temperatures up to 150 degrees around oil distributor operations; high speed/high volume traffic and loud noises; subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances for litter control; hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
