Housing & Food Services has an outstanding opportunity for a Manager for UW Dining to join their team.

About this Opportunity

Under the general direction of the General Manager, manage the day-to-day operations at a multiplatform Residential Dining operation. This includes maintaining fluency within unit procedures to onboard, train and support operations, as well as ensuring that students and full-time staff are in compliance with HFS and university policy 

Key Responsibilities

Leadership (20%)

  • Communicates departmental vision, values, and priorities while fostering a culture of excellent customer service.
  • Supervises, coaches, and develops staff through onboarding, training, performance management, scheduling, and professional development.
  • Maintains a visible presence on the floor during peak service, monitors operations and customer feedback, and ensures compliance with UW, HFS, safety, and labor policies.

Operations and Customer Service (40%)

  • Oversees daily operations, staffing, procedures, training, and customer service to ensure efficient and safe service delivery.
  • Manages inventory, purchasing, storage, production, sanitation, safety, and loss prevention while maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Supports business planning, budgeting, reporting, technology systems (CBORD FSS), marketing initiatives, and special events.

iscal Management (20%)

  • Monitors sales, financial performance, budgets, and operational reports to identify opportunities and address variances.
  • Ensures strong financial controls over purchasing, receiving, inventory, labor, and loss prevention activities.

Culinary Focus and Results (10%)

  • Develops and implements innovative menu concepts, products, and promotions that align with customer needs and campus initiatives.

Supervision (10%)

  • Directly manages, supervises, develops, and evaluates professional, classified, and student staff to ensure effective team performance.

Reports to the General Manager or Unit Culinary Leader

Required Qualifications

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants who do not meet these qualifications WILL NOT be forwarded to the Hiring Manager.

  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, business administration or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of management experience in the food service industry, experience managing a large, multi-unit food service operation.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in a college or university.

Working Conditions

  • Manages a multi-platform environment that is open for business seven days per week, and for 15+ hours on any given day. Service is delivered in a fast-paced environment, and the manager may support operations as needed to ensure business continuity.
  • In addition, the position is required to be present and visible during special events that may occur even later in the evenings such as midnight breakfasts and/or weekend functions.
