Manufacturing Test Development Engineer Co-op

Co-op Cycle: January 1st–July 2nd Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm Location: Beverly, MA (Onsite) To support students commuting to the Beverly, MA facility, Axcelis offers a travel stipend. ## About the Role As a Manufacturing Test Development Engineer Co-op, you will gain hands-on experience designing, developing, and supporting test equipment used in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to help ensure products meet quality, performance, and reliability standards. This role provides exposure to real-world engineering challenges, including the design, development, and validation of electrical and mechanical test solutions, fixture design, and hardware-level debugging of test systems. Through this experience, you will develop practical engineering skills, learn how testing integrates into large-scale manufacturing, and contribute directly to improving efficiency and product quality. ## What You’ll Do - Design, develop, build, validate, and maintain electrical and mechanical manufacturing test solutions, including automated test equipment and custom test fixtures. - Leverage manual, subtractive, and additive manufacturing tools and techniques to meet fixture design and performance requirements. - Collaborate with teammates across engineering disciplines, relying on their diverse skill sets to accomplish shared project goals. - Analyze test data to identify failure modes, root causes, and process variations. - Perform hardware-level debugging of test systems, including instrumentation and interfaces. - Collaborate with manufacturing, design, process, and quality engineering teams to meet fixture design requirements of all shareholders. - Create and maintain detailed test documentation, procedures, and reports. - Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase test coverage, throughput, and repeatability. ## What We’re Looking For - Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a similar program. - Familiarity with modeling software such as SolidWorks/Creo or AutoCAD. - Familiarity with schematic and PCB design tools such as Altium, KiCad, or QElectroTech. - Familiarity with fabrication tools such as calipers, hand tools, and 3D printing. - Familiarity with measurement tools and equipment such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, and data acquisition systems (DAQ). - Experience with project management tools such as Gantt charts and Microsoft Project/Planner. ## Why Choose Axcelis for Your Co-op? - Meaningful Work: Work on real projects that make a direct impact on products, processes, and customers. - Leadership That Knows Your Name: Senior leaders are invested in co-ops’ growth and regularly engage with students throughout their assignment. - Mentorship: Co-ops are matched with an experienced mentor to help them navigate the company, build connections, and succeed in their role. - More Than a Co-op: The co-op program is a key pipeline for full-time early-career roles, giving participants a strong starting point after graduation. - Engaging Co-op Experience: Off-site co-op events, weekly co-op meetups, and company-hosted luncheons provide opportunities to learn, network, and feel part of the Axcelis team. ## Commute Information Axcelis provides a $1,000 travel stipend to support students commuting to the facility, paid as a lump sum in the first paycheck. The Beverly, MA headquarters is directly off Route 128 and 10 minutes from the Beverly Train Station for those using public transportation. ## Compensation U.S. base salary range: $20.42–$35.70 per hour. Individual pay is determined based on job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, work location, and internal equity. Base pay is one part of the U.S. total compensation package, which includes eligibility in the Axcelis Team Incentive bonus plan and a comprehensive benefits package for regular employees working 20 or more hours a week.
