Job Description

The Facilities Management Office is seeking a dependable, safety-minded student employee to support daily facilities and loading-dock operations. This position helps receive, organize, and distribute deliveries; maintain clean and orderly dock and storage areas; and assist facilities staff with routine operational tasks. The role involves regular physical activity, teamwork, and communication with staff, vendors, and delivery drivers.

??Work occurs primarily at a loading dock and in receiving areas. The employee may encounter noise, vehicle traffic, temperature changes, dust, and occasional inclement weather. Appropriate training and safety equipment will be provided

Responsibilities

• Assist with receiving, unloading, sorting, staging, and distributing packages, supplies, and equipment.

• Send email notifications of packages received.

• Operate carts, hand trucks, or similar equipment after required training.

• Maintain clean, organized, and unobstructed loading-dock, receiving, recycling, and storage areas.

• Many packages received include hazardous materials and/or perishables. Promptly report damaged or misplaced shipments, spills, hazards, injuries, and equipment concerns to a supervisor.

• Occasional furniture moves for events or and purging outdated data

• Provide courteous, professional service to students, faculty, vendors, and visitors?

Required Qualifications

• Current student eligible for student employment at the University of Michigan.

• Dependable, punctual, and able to follow written and verbal instructions.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.

• Ability to communicate professionally and work effectively as part of a team.

• Ability to perform the position’s essential duties, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:

  • Remaining active and on one’s feet for extended periods.

  • Bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and using stairs.

  • Frequently moving items weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Occasionally working in indoor and outdoor dock conditions.

  • Availability during assigned shifts.
