PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY - SUSPENSION OF COMPETITION

In accordance with Fresno County Personnel Rule 4310.6, the County of Fresno Information Technology Services Department is pleased to announce a promotional opportunity for the position of Network Systems Engineer IIncumbents perform technical duties in support of enterprise-level data and communications network, server, storage and radio systems. Responsibilities include: capacity planning of network and server resources; design, implementation and administration of enterprise-level network, server, storage and radio systems; and implementation of effective security measures for County systems, including intrusion prevention and detection.

The Department intends to fill two (2) Network Systems Engineer I positions. Candidates for this suspension of competition are limited to current Information Technology Services Department employees in the who meet the minimum qualifications and filing requirements specified on this announcement and occupy a permanent position as an Information Technology Specialist I/II, or Supervising Information Technology Specialist.

Minimum Qualifications

OPTION 1:           
            
Experience: Four (4) years of full-time, paid work experience designing, building, maintaining or administering enterprise-level data or communications networks or enterprise-level server systems.
 
Substitution: Possession of a valid associate's level certification from CompTIA, Microsoft, or Cisco in networking, server administration, virtualization, or a closely related field may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. 

OR

Possession of a valid professional or expert level certification from CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco, or VMware in networking, server administration, virtualization, or a closely related field may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.
 
OPTION 2:     
                  
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system in Information Systems, Computer Science or a closely related field.
 
OPTION 3 
                     
Experience: Two (2) years of full-time, paid work experience as an Information Technology Specialist with the County of Fresno.
 
In addition to the options listed above, the following is also required:

 
License: Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent, may be required.
 
Other: As a condition of employment, candidates may be required to undergo and pass a thorough background investigation and polygraph examination. These investigations may include employment/credit histories, verification of education, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct.

SELECTION PROCESS:

Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4310 - Suspension of Competition, competitive examination may be suspended by the Director of Human Resources for a vacancy that meets the specified criteria. In such cases, all applicants must meet the established minimum qualifications and filing requirements as specified on this announcement. In this instance, all employees that meet the minimum qualifications and filing requirements as specified on this announcement will be afforded an interview.
