About the Department
The Department of Administration's (Admin) Office of Technology & Information Services (OTIS) is seeking a Network Technician I to join the team. OTIS oversees the state’s federated model for implementing, enhancing, and protecting information technology (IT) resources and the utilization of IT shared services across agencies. In this role you will work with others in the Network Design team and with Network Integration to manage and order inventory for spare equipment and parts. You will run reports and keep documentation current for customer networks.
This position is onsite in beautiful Columbia, South Carolina.
Responsibilities of the Network Technician I:
- Supports the Network integration and Network security by maintaining adequate supplies and managing the shopping cart.
- Determines the need for bandwidth, service changes and upgrades by working with Network Integration, Network Security, Account Management and Network Service vendors.
- Utilizes DTO provided network monitoring tools and vendor provided network monitoring and order management tools.
- Consults with State Agencies to make recommendations for design of voice, video and data networks.
- Provides quotes for network equipment and detailed supporting network diagrams.
- Ensures accurate first billing of services to accomplish DTO customer service standards.
- Coordinate implementation of network projects through equipment and service orders, verbal and written communications, field inspections and agency reports.
- Work closely with other DTO service units to coordinate activities and to provide, manage and ensure a high quality of customer service is provided to all customers.
- Works as Telephone Coordinator for OTIS. Orders new telephone service performs telephone disconnects as required and troubleshoots telephone related issues for OTIS.
- Performs other duties as required.
Position Duties
- A high school diploma and experience in information technology, electronics technology systems, or other related areas.
- An associate degree or bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience.
- Basic knowledge of data network services and data communications.
- Basic knowledge of methods of data network design and equipment configuration requirements.
- Basic knowledge of office automation systems, information processing operations, fiber optic microcomputer hardware/software as they relate to the latest trends in voice and data networks connectivity.
- Basic knowledge of computer system analysis, design, testing, debugging, and maintenance techniques.
- Ability to assist with presenting technical and non-technical reports in a clear and concise manner.
- Position will be required to report to work during emergency situations and hazardous weather events.
- Position requires employe to work evenings and weekends.
- Position requires routine driver duties.
- Position requires frequent lifting 50 lbs.

- Must maintain an up-to-date Defensive Driving Certificate.
- Position may require work beyond the 37.5-hour work week, including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Must carry a mobile communications device if provided.
