About this role

Naval Nuclear Laboratory supports the safety and reliability of the U.S. Navy's naval nuclear reactors and trains the Sailors who operate them. The entry-level Nuclear Engineer will perform reactor protection and plant performance analyses for the FORD Class Aircraft Carrier Fleet, respond to emergent fleet issues, develop performance improvements, and interface with power plant stakeholders.

What you'll do:

  • Perform reactor protection/plant analysis in support of the nuclear reactors that power the FORD Class Aircraft Carrier Fleet
  • Performing reactor system performance analyses, responding to emergent FORD Class fleet issues, and developing reactor system performance improvements
  • Learn reactor protection and plant analysis codes used for reactor performance analyses, prepare and execute analyses using high performance computing systems, and make determinations regarding reactor plant performance and operations
  • Interface with power plant stakeholders (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control) in support of the FORD Class fleet

What they're looking for:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering or science field; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related engineering or science field
  • Strong initiative to learn and apply new skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python
  • Background (academic and/or professional) in reactor design and plant analysis
  • All candidates must be U.S. citizens
  • Degree in nuclear engineering is preferred, but not required
