Job Description

The Nurse Practitioner at Ward 86 will deliver comprehensive care to a diverse patient population, including individuals living with or at risk for HIV, who are unstably housed, those with substance use disorders, and patients with Hepatitis B and/or C. This position will also manage patients on long-acting antiretroviral therapy (ART) for both treatment and prevention of HIV. The NP will work within a large urban HIV clinic and will have responsibilities that include proctoring Nurse Practitioner students, participating and/or leading quality improvement initiatives, and collaborating with academic institutions. The NP will provide care to HIV positive women, men, young adults, and older adults, ensuring a holistic and inclusive approach to treatment. The role involves conducting thorough assessments, developing and implementing care plans, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in similar environments and demonstrate a commitment to improving the health and well-being of individuals living with HIV.

Qualifications

Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing approved or verified school of nursing with a master’s degree in nursing or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). Required Qualifications - Minimum five (5) years of experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner providing comprehensive ambulatory primary care in a public-sector, federally qualified health center (FQHC), academic safety-net, or other safety-net clinical setting serving medically underserved people living with HIV and those at risk for HIV acquisition. - Minimum three (3) years of experience providing comprehensive HIV primary care, including management of antiretroviral therapy across the HIV care continuum and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams supporting patients with significant medical and psychosocial complexity. - Minimum two (2) years of demonstrated experience assessing, initiating, and managing long-acting injectable antiretroviral therapy for treatment of HIV, including patients with adherence challenges, unstable housing, mental illness, substance use disorders, or other barriers to viral suppression. - Minimum two (2) years of demonstrated experience assessing, initiating, and managing long-acting injectable HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and other biomedical HIV prevention strategies. - Minimum two (2) years of experience evaluating and managing Hepatitis C infection in adults, including patients with HIV coinfection and other medically or psychosocially complex conditions. - Fluency in spoken and written Spanish. - Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating HIV clinical programs, quality improvement initiatives, or multidisciplinary care teams focused on improving outcomes for people living with HIV. - Demonstrated experience developing or implementing innovative clinical programs or care models for populations experiencing barriers to engagement in care, including homelessness, substance use disorders, serious mental illness, or other social determinants of health. - Demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and harm reduction-based models of care. Minimum License/Certifications - California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction - California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction - California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number including Schedule II furnishing privileges - NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role- Adult Outpatient (A-GNP-C, ANP-C, FNP-C, GNP-C, AGPCNP-BC, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, GNP-BC, ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC). - California Driver License (if required for position) - Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address - American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - Additional required AHA certifications: None additional to BLS - HIV Specialist (AAHIVS) by the American Academy of HIV Medicine UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
