REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education JOB GOAL: To support students in accessing and participating in the educational environment as independently and safely as possible by providing occupational therapy assessments, direct therapy services, consultation, and collaboration with staff and families. The Occupational Therapist develops and implements individualized intervention plans, participates in the IEP process, maintains required documentation, provides staff training, and recommends adaptive strategies and equipment to enhance students' educational performance and functional independence PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Assess school-aged students in the areas of gross motor, fine motor, perceptual, sensory, functional, and activities of daily living skills to determine educational needs. - Conduct evaluations and reevaluations and prepare comprehensive evaluation reports, reevaluation reports, and evaluation summaries based on assessment data. - Develop, implement, and monitor occupational therapy services within students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including measurable goals, accommodations, progress monitoring, and progress reporting. - Provide direct occupational therapy services as outlined in students' IEPs within the natural school environment, including classrooms, playgrounds, cafeterias, transitions, and other educational settings. - Develop measurable therapy objectives, maintain service data, and complete documentation required for district, state, Medicaid, and other reimbursement programs. - Recommend, provide, and monitor adaptive equipment, assistive technology, positioning supports, sensory tools, environmental modifications, and other therapeutic interventions to increase student access, participation, and independence. - Recommend school-based occupational therapy programs, classroom strategies, and specialized equipment to support student success and staff implementation. - Prepare for and participate in IEP meetings, Child Find activities, preschool transitions, screenings, evaluations, and multidisciplinary team meetings. - Maintain accurate student records, therapy logs, progress monitoring data, and all required documentation. - Collaborate and communicate effectively with parents, guardians, teachers, administrators, physicians, and other professionals to support student needs and educational programming. - Develop and maintain therapy schedules that effectively meet student service requirements while coordinating with school schedules. - Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs), therapy aides, students, or other assigned personnel in accordance with applicable regulations and district procedures. - Assist with the orientation, training, and performance documentation of therapy support staff, as assigned. - Plan and provide professional development, training, and in-service education related to occupational therapy and student supports. - Maintain current knowledge of occupational therapy practices, special education regulations, and professional standards. - Assess student needs and develop appropriate educational recommendations and intervention plans using sound clinical judgment. - Interpret and apply federal, state, district, and professional regulations, policies, and procedures related to occupational therapy and special education services. - Read, interpret, and apply professional, medical, technical, and educational information to support student programming and educational decision-making. - Utilize computers, electronic record systems, assistive technology, and other technology to support documentation, communication, and service delivery. - Collect, analyze, and utilize data to monitor student progress, evaluate services, and support educational decision-making. - Organize, prioritize, and manage caseloads, schedules, records, and assigned responsibilities effectively while meeting required timelines. - Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain positive, professional working relationships with students, families, staff, administrators, and community agencies while communicating effectively in both written and verbal formats. - Support student health, safety, mobility, positioning, sensory regulation, and functional participation by following district health, safety, and emergency procedures. - Maintain confidentiality, exercise ethical and professional judgment, follow district policies, dress in a professional manner appropriate for the position, and present a positive, professional demeanor at all times. - Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Director PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position may require lifting, carrying, positioning, bending, kneeling, reaching, handling adaptive equipment, and supporting students with mobility or functional access needs. The employee may be required to move from location to location, stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, and see as necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT LENGTH: 180 day work year-One year only for the 2026-2027 School Year Position Type: .80 FTE(80% Full-Time Equivalent) SCHEDULE: As assigned by the Director of Special Education SALARY AND BENEFITS: -As agreed to by the board of directors in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, as provided by state law and local board policy. EVALUATION: At least annually on/before May 1st by the Director of Special Education. New or probationary employees are evaluated more often as per state law, WAC’s, GEA contract, and district policy.
