Overview

The pediatric occupational therapist coordinates the occupational therapy plan following an evaluation as defined by State Licensure requirements. Provides skilled therapeutic rehabilitative and habilitative services to improve and maintain function, focusing on needs identified during assessment periods. They are a resource to the interdisciplinary team, applying skills of the profession to improve outcomes of persons served. The position may be inpatient or outpatient; all outpatient positions take inpatient weekend call. Actions are team oriented to successfully provide quality care and a high level of satisfaction for persons served through evidence-based practice.

Responsibilities

Care Delivery:

• Evaluates, screens, and/or re-evaluates persons referred to determine the need for skilled therapy intervention

• Interprets evaluation findings and develops an appropriate treatment plan, including goal setting

• Carries out the treatment plan and coordinates with patient, family, significant others, and care team

• Monitors patient’s response and modifies treatment to achieve goals

• Reviews and analyzes quality appropriateness of the occupational therapy services delivered

• Documents the results of assessments, treatments, follow-up, and termination of services

• Develops appropriate home or community programming to maintain and enhance the performance of the patients in their own environment

• Reports problems to supervisor as indicated


Professionalism and Personal Development:

• Mentors new teammates regarding care delivery, documentation, billing and basic department workflows

• Oversees Occupational Therapy students as assigned

• Following licensure laws, is professionally accountable for overseeing delegated clinical tasks to the therapy technician

• Accepts responsibility for maintaining and developing personal and professional skills and knowledge related to the work area assigned

• Understands and complies with billing and reimbursement procedures according to government, third party, and department requirements

• Demonstrates accurate and ethical billing practices

• Demonstrates professionalism and personal growth in daily actions.

• Promotes professional rehabilitation objectives among interdisciplinary team members

• Consistently utilizes a holistic approach appropriate to the age of the patients served

• Supports ongoing development of the program through participation in, or development of, quality and competency activities

• Participates in process improvement for enhancement of care delivery and clinical excellence

• Fosters professional relationships that offer opportunities for enhanced patient access and care delivery

• Exhibits flexibility with assignments including hours of operation to meet business and customer needs

• Exhibits willingness to accept and learn new skills


Qualifications

Education:
Graduate from an accredited occupational therapy program Pediatric Clinical Internship.

Experience:

New Graduates Accepted

One year of pediatric experience preferred


License(s)/Certification(s):

Licensed or in the process of obtaining licensure to practice Occupational Therapy in the State of Iowa as defined in the Iowa Occupational Therapy Regulation and Practice Act.

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
