About this role

Pitt EDGE is the University of Pittsburgh’s central hub for digital education, housed within the Office of the Provost. This inaugural Center advances the University’s strategic vision for online, hybrid, and continuing education by partnering with Pitt’s 16 schools to expand access and improve quality for diverse learners. Pitt EDGE supports the full lifecycle of digital learning through services such as instructional design, technology integration, market analysis, academic planning, recruitment, and quality assurance. 

This position's primary client will be the University of Pittsburgh's School of Computing and Information. 


Master's degree in instructional design or related field, and 3-5 years of relevant professional experience. Experience and proficiency designing courses in Coursera is required. Experience utilizing AI for instructional design and assessment is highly desirable. Experience with HTML/coding, Jupyter Notebook also highly desirable.

Consult with educators on the design, development, and delivery of moderately complex instructional materials and the integration of instructional technologies.

  • Consults with faculty and subject matter experts to design, develop, and enhance instructional materials and strategically integrate instructional technologies for online and hybrid courses and programs.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure online and hybrid programs align with institutional priorities, school requirements, accreditation expectations, and national standards.
  • Evaluates instructional and learner needs to identify, develop, and align appropriate learning goals, outcomes, and objectives for online and hybrid delivery modalities.
  • Develops and revises curricula for online and hybrid instructional programs, integrating course content and learning activities through appropriate instructional technologies, LMS tools, and AI-enabled assessment solutions.
  • Builds and maintains online and hybrid courses within the Learning Management System (Coursera), ensuring compliance with ADA digital accessibility standards, copyright regulations, and recognized quality standards for online education.
  • Designs, develops, and edits instructional content, including text-based materials, videos, multimedia resources, interactive learning objects, and other digital assets that support learner engagement and success.
  • Analyzes learning data and learner analytics to assess instructional effectiveness, evaluate learning outcomes, identify areas for improvement, and recommend evidence-based enhancements to courses and programs.
  • Designs and delivers faculty and staff training programs focused on online and hybrid pedagogy, instructional design best practices, educational technologies, and emerging digital learning innovations.
  • Applies quality assurance and continuous improvement practices to ensure online and hybrid courses meet institutional benchmarks and enhance the overall learner experience.
  • Provides instructional design expertise and project support throughout the course development lifecycle, from consultation and planning through implementation, evaluation, and revision.
