The Department of Surgery in the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is seeking a clinically focused plastic surgeon to join our busy and growing academic practice. This full-time faculty position is available at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (non-tenure track), depending on experience and qualifications.

Position Overview

We are looking for a surgeon with strong clinical training and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care in both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. The ideal candidate will have completed an approved microsurgery fellowship, be board certified or board eligible in plastic surgery, and be able to obtain a full Texas medical license.

The position includes active participation in a busy elective surgical practice and will involve hand surgery and craniofacial trauma call. The role is ideal for a candidate interested in working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary academic environment with opportunities for hands-on teaching and clinical mentorship of residents and fellows. The position includes opportunities in oncologic reconstruction, as well as general elective reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. The successful candidate will be able to develop programs at expanding clinical sites, including the new Multispecialty Research Hospital and Kyle Seale Parkway Ambulatory Surgical Center as well as new University Hospital sites including Retama Parkway and in South San Antonio

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive clinical care in general plastic surgery, including microsurgical reconstruction, aesthetic surgery, and trauma-related procedures.
  • Participate in hand surgery and craniofacial trauma call rotations as part of a shared faculty schedule.
  • Serve as a clinical educator for residents and medical students in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Collaborate with faculty across surgical and medical specialties to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Engage in quality improvement, practice development, and patient safety initiatives.

Qualifications

  • M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited plastic surgery residency.
  • Fellowship training in microsurgery is required.
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Plastic Surgery.
  • Eligible for an unrestricted Texas medical license.
  • Strong interest in clinical teaching and mentoring.
  • Prior experience in a high-volume academic or community-based practice is a plus.

Benefits Overview

UT Health San Antonio offers an excellent benefits package for its employees. Employees who work at least 20 hours a week, with an appointment of at least 4.5 months, are eligible for benefits.

 

Medical- UT SELECT Medical insurance is offered free for fulltime employees and administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. Family members can be added to the plan through payroll deduction. Retirement- Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.

 

Time Off- A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:

 

Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.

 

Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.

 

Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.

 

Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each fiscal year.
