In this role, you will perform advanced ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic testing to support physicians in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of eye conditions. Responsibilities include operating specialized imaging equipment, capturing high-quality retinal and ocular images, maintaining accurate patient records, assisting with patient flow, and ensuring exceptional patient care in a fast-paced outpatient setting. This position offers daylight hours Monday through Friday between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, based on clinic needs, with 5% occasional travel to other UPMC Vision Institute locations as needed for staffing support. Join UPMC and be part of a leading vision care team dedicated to improving the lives of our patients through outstanding ophthalmic care.%3C/div%3E%3Cdiv style=%22font-family:%27Segoe UI%27;font-size:14px;font-style:normal;font-weight:400;line-height:20px;%22%3E%3Cstrong%3EResponsibilities:%3C/strong%3E%3C/div%3E%3Cul%3E%3Cli%3EPerform a variety of highly skilled duties associated with the operation of specialized equipment to assist physicians in documenting, diagnosing, and treating diseases of the eye, including color fundus photography, optical coherence tomography, OCT angiography, retinal thickness analysis, slit lamp and goniophotography, visual field testing, external photos, and a-scans.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EReviews physician’s orders and patient’s medical history and allergies in Epic prior to performing imaging and photography.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EDemonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and condition of the patients serviced in the department. Provides for care and/or extends services as described in department policies and procedures.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EExplain imaging procedures to patient and provides instruction during imaging.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EPerform optical coherence tomography and ocular digital photography using different makes and manufacturers in accordance with protocols.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EPerform visual field assessment using the automated Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer in accordance with protocols.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EAccess and review previous patient notes within Epic.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3ERecognize problems or malfunctions of photographic, diagnostic, and related equipment versus patient media opacities. May assist in making minor adjustments and perform preventive maintenance in accordance with established procedures. Advises supervisor of malfunctions or problems affecting the accuracy and quality of scans or images requiring repair by vendor.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3ERecognize and help rectify issues with image import into Forum, image archiving and storage and managing duplicate patients, including contacting IT/Forum group as required.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EMaintain adequate levels of supplies for imaging department and notifies supervisor of supplies needing to be ordered.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EParticipates in the collection of patient history and complete ocular workup such as visual acuity, ocular history, vital signs, intraocular pressure, and records results in patient record.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EOphthalmic imaging procedures which may include but are not limited to OCT, Anterior OCT, HRT, Color fundus photos, corneal topography, visual fields, a-scans, b-scans, external photos.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EOphthalmic procedures / assessments including but not limited to visual acuity tests and instilling eye drops in accordance with established approved protocols for patient safety.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EAbility to edit and transfer images from digital camera to the patient database in Forum and Epic.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EBasic knowledge of anatomy of the eye and ophthalmic disease processes.%3C/li%3E%3C/ul%3E

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of ophthalmic experience required.
