About this Position

Facilities Management is seeking a skilled, experienced painter to join our team.

Duties include applying coating in the required thickness to keep a consistent run-free finish and gloss. Write a paint-related work scope and provide a time and materials list. Signage installation, interior/exterior. Scissor lift and man lift experience. Construct/de-construct scaffolding. Perform minor carpentry work such as installing TV wall mounts, framing modifications, and sheetrock installation.

Perform carpet, LVT, and VCT removal/installation, with vinyl base installation. Assist in window replacement. Ceiling grid modifications and ceiling tile replacement. Insulation installation in walls and above ceilings. Assist with all other construction fields. Paint interior offices, classrooms, hallways, stairwells, and furnishings. Scrape, sand, prep, and clean all areas to be painted. Spread drop cloths to protect areas from paint. Tape and bed new sheetrock. Patch holes with taping mud, plaster, or spackle.

Apply various types of materials such as alkyds, acrylics, urethane, epoxies, lacquer, and stains with brushes, rollers, and spray equipment to walls, ceilings, floors, window sash, doors, and furnishings. Mix paint and match the colors of paint. Load and unload equipment. Rarely, the employee in this position may be required to work overtime and/or shift work when work requires and cannot be accomplished during regular working hours, and when management deems it necessary.

Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (hard hat, vest, gloves, safety glasses, etc.). These items are provided and are not for personal use.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Painter I: Two years of work experience; preference given to those with experience in the painting trade.

    Painter II: Four years of work experience in the painting trade.

    Painter III: Seven years of work experience in the painting trade.

    Painter IV: Ten years of experience working in the painting trade.

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver’s license. A valid driver’s license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

Job requirements include occasional use of respiratory equipment. Therefore, an individual is required to pass a medical exam to ensure physical ability to wear, use, and perform work in respirator equipment.

This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.

Must work safely and promote a safe work environment. Employee will be required to climb and work on ladders, scaffolding, or high-lift equipment.

Ability to become proficient in the use of the “AIM” Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.
