The Part-Time Hardware & Device Test Engineer will test and validate connected medical alert and mobile personal emergency response devices, including hardware, firmware, cellular connectivity, and related accessories. The role supports troubleshooting, defect documentation, regression testing, and engineering validation activities.
What you'll do:

- Perform functional and regression testing to verify that existing features continue to work after firmware changes
- Test pre-production engineering samples during hardware development and validation
- Reproduce reported device problems and document the conditions under which issues occur
- Compare behavior across hardware versions, firmware versions, device configurations, and cellular networks
- Retest defects after engineering or vendor fixes are delivered
- Test devices using major U.S. cellular networks and multiple SIM configurations
- Validate device activation, network registration, incoming and outgoing calls, SMS commands, and data communication
- Assist with troubleshooting configuration, APN, SIM, and cellular-network-related issues
- Capture test details and logs needed for escalation to hardware manufacturers, module suppliers, and engineering teams
- Document defects with clear reproduction steps and supporting evidence
- Capture photos, video, logs, screenshots, call information, and other supporting data when useful
What they're looking for:

- Understanding of basic electronics and computer hardware
- Familiarity with firmware, embedded systems, IoT devices, or microcontrollers
- Familiarity with cellular technologies, SIM cards, LTE, Bluetooth, GPS/GNSS, or wireless communications
- Ability to methodically isolate variables when troubleshooting a problem
- Comfort working with spreadsheets and structured test documentation
- Ability to read technical specifications and follow engineering test procedures
- Experience with tools such as serial consoles, AT commands, log files, command-line utilities, APIs, Python, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, oscilloscopes, multimeters, or similar engineering tools is a plus, not a requirement
