Department Information

 

The Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine (IUSM) Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) has a strong history of achievement in medical research, education, and patient care. PM&R, also known as physiatry, treats conditions involving the body's nervous and musculoskeletal systems that limit a person's ability to function. The teaching faculty in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation oversees the only PM&R residency program in the state of Indiana and are eager to uphold the mission of educating the country's next generation of physiatrists.

Job Summary

 

This position supports clinical research in the IU Locomotor Recovery Center at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana, focusing on improving walking and recovery outcomes for people with stroke, brain injury, and incomplete spinal cord injuries. This is a physical therapy plus clinical research role where you provide hands-on rehabilitation to research participants while helping manage, conduct, and document clinical research studies.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides physical therapy (PT) services to research participants and conducting PT evaluations.
  • Develops and implements research-based treatment plans using evidence-based practices and outcome measures.
  • Documents treatments, evaluations, and outcomes accurately and promptly.
  • Ensures participant safety and follows appropriate clinical and research protocols.
  • Assists with clinical research studies and trials, including recruiting participants and determining eligibility based on institutional review board (IRB)-approved protocols.
  • Coordinates study procedures and monitoring participant progress.
  • Collects, records, and maintains research data and databases.
  • Manages participant scheduling and provides study reports as needed.
  • Communicates updates to research plans with the appropriate research and clinical team members.

Qualifications

 

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education. 

 

EDUCATION 

Required 

  • Bachelor's degree in physical therapy from a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) approved curriculum; OR 
  • Master's degree in physical therapy from a CAPTE approved curriculum; OR 
  • Ph.D. in physical therapy from a CAPTE approved curriculum.

WORK EXPERIENCE 

  • 2 years of experience in a clinical setting.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES 

Required 

  • Physical therapy licensure upon date of hire.
  • CPR certification 30 days from date of hire.

SKILLS 

Required 

  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to build strong customer relationships.
