The Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine (IUSM) Department of Mental Health Services promotes psychological health, well-being, and success for all Indiana University School of Medicine learners and trainees across the state of Indiana. We deliver professional and comprehensive counseling and psychiatric services, programming, and outreach, as well as support the broader School of Medicine community and foster an environment where learners can thrive.

Job Summary

 

The IU School of Medicine Department of Mental Health Services (DMHS) is seeking to fill an immediate opportunity for a psychiatrist to join the school and provide clinical care for medical learners and trainees. As a member of the Department of Mental Health Services team working with IUSM medical trainees, you will have the opportunity to evaluate and treat mental health concerns, contribute toward personal development, maturation, and wellness, facilitate adjustment to the School of Medicine, residency training programs, and fellowship programs, and support academic persistence.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides direct clinical care to trainees within the school including medical students, IUSM graduate students, residents, and fellows.
  • Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats psychiatric disorders and involves the establishment of treatment goals, treatment planning, medication management, and collaboration with the team.
  • Consults with DMHS team members, other clinical providers, and school stakeholders, including faculty, administrators, and staff.
  • Participates in staff meetings and case conferences.
  • May support programming, outreach, and other activities to advance the delivery of mental health services across IU School of Medicine's 9 locations.

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION

Required

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.); OR
  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O)

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required 

  • Completed a residency in psychiatry
  • Experience working with university-age students
  • Experience in outpatient psychiatry including psychopharmacology, crisis intervention and brief psychotherapeutic intervention for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, and psychotic disorders
  • Experience in peer review, committee work, quality improvement initiatives, and electronic medical records

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES 

Required

  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Indiana upon date of hire; OR
  • Board-certified in psychiatry upon date of hire; OR
  • Board-eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology upon date of hire

SKILLS 

Required

  • Proficient communication skills

Additional Information

 

 This is a part-time telehealth position and provides the opportunity for a provider to complement other work and maintain flexibility.

Work Location

 

Indianapolis, Indiana

This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs. 

Work Hours

 

10 - 20 hours per week
