The Indiana University (IU) Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center (IUSCCC) is the central hub for cancer research and education across Indiana University. It is the state's only National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and 1 of only 57 in the nation. Job Summary

 
  • Perform solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) using fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl (Fmoc) chemistry.
  • Conduct peptide cleavage, deprotection, precipitation, and lyophilization.
  • Purify peptides using preparative and analytical High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). 
  • Characterize synthesized peptides by Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS), Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization-Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS), and analytical HPLC. 
  • Perform peptide conjugation reactions, including: Maleimide-thiol coupling, Copper-Catalyzed Azide-Alkyne Cycloaddition (CuAAC) and Strain-Promoted Azide-Alkyne Cycloaddition (SPAAC) click chemistry, PEGylation, and Cross-linking reactions. 
  • Prepare multivalent peptide vaccine constructs.
  • Optimize reaction conditions to improve purity and yield.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and electronic records.
  • Prepare buffers, solvents, reagents, and stock solutions.
  • Manage peptide inventories, chemical stocks, and laboratory supplies.
  • Assist with technology transfer and preparation of protocols for scale-up.
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures and institutional chemical hygiene guidelines.
  • Contribute to preparation of manuscripts, grant applications, and patent documentation when appropriate.
  • Perform a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results.
  • Keep organized analytical data of performed experiments.
  • Provide support for equipment maintenance as needed.
  • Act as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training.
  • Maintain laboratory supply requisition and management.
  • May train junior-level staff.
  • May help plan experiments or short-term goals.

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in science, chemistry, or a related field).
