Patient Access Representative – Seidman Cancer Center

Portage Medical Center - Ravenna, Ohio

Make a Difference in the Cancer Care Experience

As a Patient Access Representative within our Cancer Center, you will play a vital role in creating a welcoming, supportive, and seamless experience for patients and families during some of the most important moments in their healthcare journey. Often serving as the first point of contact, you will help patients navigate appointments, registration, insurance, and communication with empathy, professionalism, and attention to detail.

This highly visible role is ideal for someone who is compassionate, organized, and passionate about delivering exceptional service while supporting patients receiving specialized oncology care. Your work directly contributes to both the patient experience and the coordination of high-quality cancer care across our multidisciplinary team.

What You’ll Do

  • Welcome and assist patients and families during check-in and check-out for cancer care visits
  • Answer incoming calls, address patient questions, and schedule appointments with empathy and professionalism
  • Support patients in enrolling in and using MyChart to stay connected to their care team
  • Accurately enter and update demographic, insurance, and financial information to support smooth patient access and continuity of care
  • Coordinate and communicate important information with physicians, nurses, and other members of the oncology care team
  • Assist with insurance verification, authorizations, referrals, and billing-related questions
  • Collect and process patient payments including copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and prior balances
  • Help patients complete necessary forms and documentation related to their care
  • Manage EPIC work queues, worklists, in-basket messages, and document scanning in a timely and accurate manner
  • Schedule follow-up appointments, referrals, and diagnostic services to support continuity of cancer treatment

What Makes This Role Meaningful

In this role, you are more than a scheduler or registrar — you are an important part of the patient care experience. Your compassion, communication, and attention to detail help reduce stress for patients and families navigating cancer treatment while ensuring the care team can provide efficient, coordinated care.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • A patient-first mindset and a commitment to compassionate service
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Attention to detail and accuracy when handling sensitive patient information
  • A willingness to learn, adapt, and support team needs across Seidman Cancer Center

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with providers and staff across the health system to improve patient experience and operational efficiency
  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities and departmental training
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment
  • Cross-train to support additional functions within the department as needed
  • Support coverage at off-site locations when necessary
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, standards, and compliance requirements, including the secure handling of Protected Health Information (PHI)

Why Join Our Cancer Center

Joining our team means becoming part of a compassionate, mission-driven environment dedicated to providing exceptional cancer care. Every interaction matters, and every team member plays a role in supporting patients and families through their journey with dignity, respect, and hope.
