A perfusionist performs advanced technical work in the selection, preparation, operation, and maintenance of the heart/lung machine and accessory equipment. . Apply today!%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cstrong%3EResponsibilities:%3C/strong%3E%3Cbr%3E%26nbsp;%3C/p%3E%3Cul%3E%3Cli%3EMaintain proficiency with accessory equipment and procedures.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EPerform duties and responsibilities according to the philosophy and standards of UPMC including conveying courtesy, respect, enthusiasm, and positive attitude in work situations with patients, peers, medical staff, and visitors.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EAdminister medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents under the supervision by the attending physicians.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EPerform equipment maintenance checklists as required.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3ESupport Procirca contractual obligations.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EProvide perfusion support for non-cardiac procedures such as: transplantation, chemoperfusion, ECMO, cardiac support devices, component therapy, and blood recovery.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EAssist in the evaluation of new equipment.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EIf employed at UPMC facility, serve as instructor/supervisor to UPMC School of Cardiovascular Perfusion%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EParticipate in on-call schedule per institutional policy.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3ESafely conduct perfusion scope of practice.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EMake appropriate changes in therapy after consultation with the attending physician(s).%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EPerform responsibilities outside the home-base hospital.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EMaintain equipment and supplies.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EPerform documentation associated with described responsibilities.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EIf employed at UPMC facility, participate with coverage and call for STAT MedEvac responsibilities.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EAble to travel 25% of the time.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3ESupport continuing education and research as required by the perfusionist%27s scope of practice.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EInstruct students, residents and others in new procedures and equipment.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EParticipate as assigned with the ordering and maintenance of supplies..%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EParticipate with development and revision of: policy and procedure, performance improvement, quality management, and staff education.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EAssists other staff members and hospital personnel in completion of needed tasks; and makes patient care and/or interdepartmental service the number one priority.%3C/li%3E%3C/ul%3E

• Graduation from a CAAHEP accredited school of cardiovascular perfusion or met Grandfather Clause of the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and Licensing Board of US state where practicing. 
• Bachelor's Degree required.
  
  Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
   
• Certified or certification-eligible as per guidelines of the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion within 24 months of hire date.
• Active licensure in US state where practicing required.
• CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
• Valid Driver's License and Automobile Insurance required for some positions

• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Cardiopulmonary Perfusionist OR Osteopathic Perfusionist OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)
