Physical Therapy Resident-Neurology

%3Cp class=%22MsoNormal%22%3E%3Cspan style=%22font-size: 14px;%22%3EThe Neurologic Residency Program is designed to provide practicing therapists with advanced training in examination, evaluation, clinical decision making and neurologic treatment interventions.%3Cspan style=%22mso-spacerun: yes;%22%3E%26nbsp; %3C/span%3EThe program runs 12 consecutive months, beginning in August.%3Cspan style=%22mso-spacerun: yes;%22%3E%26nbsp; %3C/span%3EAdditionally, the program places an emphasis in utilizing research and the literature to maintain practice within the scope of evidence-based therapy.%3Cspan style=%22mso-spacerun: yes;%22%3E%26nbsp; %3C/span%3EThe program is funded by UPMC Rehabilitation Institute and housed within several of our clinics.%3Cspan style=%22mso-spacerun: yes;%22%3E%26nbsp; %3C/span%3EThe inpatient rehabilitation rotation is housed within UPMC Mercy, the acute inpatient observation is housed within UPMC Presbyterian, and the outpatient rotation is split between our UPMC Monroeville and UPMC Lemieux Sports Medicine clinics.%3Cspan style=%22mso-spacerun: yes;%22%3E%26nbsp; %3C/span%3EThe program has been designed to advance the competent physical therapist through education, research, and professional service into a board-certified clinical specialist in neurologic physical therapy. %3Cspan style=%22font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;%22%3E%3Cspan style=%22line-height: 107%;%22%3E%3Cspan style=%22mso-spacerun: yes;%22%3E%26nbsp;%3C/span%3EIn addition to advanced coursework and mentoring, the resident with attend grand rounds, journal clubs, become APTA Basic CI certified and attend the annual APTA Combined Sections Meeting.%3Cspan style=%22mso-spacerun: yes;%22%3E%26nbsp; %3C/span%3EMoreover, the resident will be enrolled as adjunct faculty at the University of Pittsburgh%26rsquo;s School of Physical Therapy, where they will participate in the instruction of Doctoral of Physical Therapy students.%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3C/span%3E%3Co:p%3E%3C/o:p%3E%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp style=%22font-family: Arial;%22%3E%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp style=%22font-family: Arial;%22%3E%3Cstrong%3EResponsibilities%3C/strong%3E:%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cul%3E%0A%3Cli style=%22font-family: Arial;%22%3EPerforms physical therapy assessment, reassessment and treatment and supervises physical therapist assistants in the treatment of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients referred by a physician to the clinic%26nbsp;%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli style=%22font-family: Arial;%22%3EDevelops plan of care including goals and treatment plan in accordance with physician referral, nature of injury/illness and results of physical therapy assessment%26nbsp;%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli style=%22font-family: Arial;%22%3EModifies or adjusts plan of care based on patient%27s response to treatment and/or changes in patient%27s status%26nbsp;%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli style=%22font-family: Arial;%22%3EMaintains written documentation for all physical therapy services rendered including documentation of initial assessment, follow-up visits, and discharge summary consistent with department standards%26nbsp;%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli style=%22font-family: Arial;%22%3ECo-signs physical therapist assistant documentation biweekly%26nbsp;%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli style=%22font-family: Arial;%22%3EProvides verbal and/or written home instructions to patient and/or family members when applicable%26nbsp;%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli style=%22font-family: Arial;%22%3ECommunicates patient%27s status to the referring physician and other health care team members%26nbsp;%3C/li%3E%0A%3Cli style=%22font-family: Arial;%22%3ESchedules patients to achieve and maintain a level of productivity which meets or exceeds the standard established for the facility by the organization while ensuring delivery of quality patient care%3C/li%3E%0A%3C/ul%3E

• Graduate of an accredited program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)

• Cumulative experiences that indicate interest and high performance in residency area based on strong academic performance and clinical rotation evaluations

• Evidence of emerging skills in clinical reasoning and application of acquired skills

• In order to be considered for this residency program, you must complete both the UPMC application as well as the RF-PTCAS application
