THE POSITION

The Plant Mechanic position with the Department of Human Services (DHS) gives you the chance to take an even more impactful role in keeping essential boiler systems running safely and efficiently at Clarks Summit State Hospital. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on maintaining, repairing, and operating high-pressure boilers and related equipment that support hospital operations. It requires strong mechanical skills and careful attention to safety throughout all tasks. As a Plant Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

  • Boiler Maintenance: Perform repairs, adjustments, and replacements on high pressure steam boilers and auxiliary equipment
  • Equipment Repair: Maintain pumps, compressors, motors, valves, tanks, and other mechanical components throughout the boiler plant
  • System Upkeep: Repair and replace plumbing, steam lines, water lines, fuel lines, heaters, and related piping systems
  • Mechanical Tasks: Operate tools, weld, solder, brace, insulate, paint, and complete repairs on plant equipment
  • Operational Monitoring: Review maintenance schedules, records, and logs to ensure safe steam production and compliance with procedures
  • Inventory Control: Manage supply needs, approve replacement parts, and maintain records of completed repairs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. You will work rotating weekends and holidays.
  • You will be subject to emergency call-ins.
  • Overtime and travel as needed

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Organization or Location Restrictions: 

  • This posting is restricted to Department of Human Services, Clarks Summit State Hospital employees only. 


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience performing skilled work in the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, or steam systems in a commercial or industrial facility; or
  • Three years of experience performing semiskilled work in the maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, or steam systems in a commercial or industrial facility; or
  • One year of experience performing semiskilled work in the maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, or steam systems in a commercial or industrial facility and completion of a high school vocational technical program from an accredited institution in HVAC, plumbing, steamfitting, pipefitting, or welding; or
  • One year of experience performing semiskilled work in the maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, or steam systems in a commercial or industrial facility and completion of a post-secondary technical training program or associate’s degree in HVAC, plumbing, steamfitting, pipefitting, or welding from an accredited institution.

Legal Requirements: 

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination..
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.


This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding.
