Central Louisiana State Hospital located in Pineville, Louisiana is seeking applicants for vacant positions in our Medical Clinic as a Licensed Practical Nurse 1-2 who provides basic nursing care to assigned patients/clients in stable conditions and in predictable situations in accordance with the Professional Nurses Practice Act.

The Licensed Practical Nurse 1-2 plays a vital role for the Louisiana Department of Health in the Behavioral Health community by utilizing CLSH’s values and mission to deliver quality and effective care to our patients. The hospital is highly committed to cooperative work with other state agencies and with the state and regional mental health program to insure the integration and coordination of hospital-community services into a comprehensive system of mental health care.

Job Duties:

• Receives medical orders by phone, memo or email. 

• Schedules off grounds appointments. Maintains off grounds logbook. Prepares a weekly list of off ground appointments for Security, DON, OD Nurses, RN Managers, CEO and Medical Director. 

• Schedules speech therapy, audiology, neurology, mammograms, x-rays and other diagnostic tests ordered by physician. Maintains consult and requisition forms for diagnostics. Verifies patient eligibility for off ground appointments. 

• Assists with preparation of monthly patient movement for medical director and tracks hours spent off grounds at various appointments.

• Schedules appointments for the Clinic RNSA, screens calls, using independent judgment as to validity and importance. Composes and distributes memorandums with only general verbal instructions. 

• Receives and reviews daily reports from all Nursing Units and incident reports routing to the RNSA those reports which warrant immediate attention.

• Provides professional nursing for adult patients with psychiatric and coexisting medical/physical problems. 

• Assists LIP with newly admitted patients, medication reconciliation, review of documents, etc. Performs/assists LIP with physical exams, visual acuity, hearing screen, EKG, lab requisitions, X-ray requisition, pelvic and Pap smear. Responsible for getting LIP's signature on all EKG's and hearing screenings. 

• Prepares patients for exams and explains any procedures done. Collaborates with Physical Health Support Services {PHSS) LIP and communicates assessments of treatment and makes recommendations to the PHSS LIP based on these assessments. 

• Assists in emergency situations within guidelines of scope of practice for licensure. Initiates First Aid and/or CPR. Assists with crisis interventions. A

Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, WAE, or Job Appointment

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Licensed Practical Nurse 1, or 2.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday

Compensation: This position has a SER (Special Entrance Rate) of $1,558.40 Bi-Weekly for an LPN 1, and $1667.20 for an LPN 2. Position is eligible for Premium Pay of $10.00 per hour and Longevity Pay starting at $2.00 per hour.
