Product Design Engineer - High Speed

## Position Summary Job title: Product Design Engineer - High Speed Location: Irvine, CA Reporting to the NPD Engineering Manager, the Product Design Engineer I NPD, Electrical is responsible for modifying existing designs and assisting in new designs of mil/aero high-speed and filtered connectors and contacts utilizing industry standards, innovation and ITT Cannon trade secrets. Tasks include modifying existing creating 3D models of connector designs, 2D drawing, test specifications, and Bill of Materials (BOM). In limited cases, creating 3D models, 2D drawings, and Bill of Materials (BOM) will be required for new designs. The Product Design Engineer I – NPD, Electrical is also responsible for working with Manufacturing Engineering to support technical production issues and with Product Management to provide cost estimates for quoting. ## Essential Responsibilities - Modifies existing high speed and filtered connectors and contacts design per customer requirements or design improvements. - In limited cases, when exposed to design opportunities, creates high speed and filtered connectors and contacts designs per design inputs and constraints provided. - Modifies and creates 3D models and 2D drawings of high speed and filtered connectors and contacts based on electrical, mechanical, and environmental requirements - Becomes entry level knowledgeable in use of HFSS simulation software to interpret signal integrity data on high-speed connectors. - Design PCB’s and test adapters as needed to perform evaluation and validation of connector signal integrity - Prepare and release manufacturing assembly drawings and bills of materials (BOMs). - Initiate and support drawing changes (ECNs, impact assessments, material dispositions) - Support production with manufacturing issues, supplier issues, quality issues, etc. that affect the fiber optic interconnect products. - Develop qualification test plans that meet customer and/or industry performance requirements - Engineering BOM creation, documentation creation and updates - Product Testing/Qualification support and overview within Product Evaluation Lab - Performs other duties as assigned by Engineering Management - Safety is a core value at ITT. Our employees understand and follow all ITT safety policies and procedures, participate in the workplace inspections, safety training and in the development of job safety analyses. ## Position Requirements - Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical degree - 0 to 3 years of experience in Mil/Aero high-speed and/or filter connector design - Knowledge of industry standard communication protocols: 10/100/1G/10G BASE-T Ethernet, Single Pair Ethernet, analog/digital video, 1553 databus, USB , Display Port, HDMI, SATA and experience designing mil/aero connectors meeting these protocols. - Experience with 3D CAD software (Creo, Solidworks, NX, or similar) - Proficiency in using high-speed performance test equipment (network analyzer, Fluke DSX, etc.) - Possess analytical capabilities to interpret simulation and lab data to identify issues and provide solutions to fix identified problems. - Working knowledge of electromagnetic theory and electrical circuit behavior - Ability to manage multiple tasks to drive results - Highly self-motivated and a willingness to make a difference and learn - Excellent communication skills and ability to work with different departments. - Working knowledge of MS Office products such as Excel, Word etc... - The ability to travel periodically (up to 10%) - Must be a US Citizen or Permanent US Resident to be considered for this role
