About this role
Siemens is a global technology company focused on industry, infrastructure, transport, and healthcare. The Protection & Automation Electrical Engineering Intern will rotate through Protection & Automation teams while supporting engineering design, proposal development, testing, troubleshooting, and post-delivery customer support for power distribution and automation projects.
What you'll do:
- Rotating through Protection & Automation (PPA) teams, including Solutions Engineering, Solutions Offers, and Global Customer Care (GCC), to gain exposure to the full project lifecycle while supporting engineering, proposal development, and post-delivery activities
- Assisting with configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of protection relays, RTUs, and HMIs
- Supporting engineering design processes by working with AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, signal lists, and communication network diagrams
- Using digital twin technology to simulate and test protection relay signals in a virtual environment
- Contributing to projects involving microgrids and renewable technologies, including photovoltaic and battery storage systems
- Supporting the development of customer proposals by learning how technical scope translates into engineering effort, cost, and deliverables
- Assisting with post-delivery project support, including warranty, issue resolution, and customer case coordination
- Gaining hands-on experience with testing automation panels, supporting Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), and working in the Power & Automation laboratory
- Building familiarity with Siemens electrical equipment including switchgear, MCCs, breakers, transformers, and related systems
What they're looking for:
- Currently pursuing bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field and approaching completion of the required educational credentials for this opportunity
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) for the duration of the 12-week summer internship
- Eligible candidates must be located within 50 miles of Wendell, NC, as this role does not provide relocation support
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship
- On-site requirement will vary based on team placement, as will expected working hours
- This internship is a structured experiential learning program for individuals currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program who will continue their studies following the assignment. Current and continuing enrollment is a condition of participation.
