The Public Health Nutrition Consultant role with the Department of Education offers a chance to make a real difference for children across the Commonwealth. Position Duties

This position supports statewide nutrition education efforts and helps strengthen participation in Child Nutrition Programs. It also guides training, program compliance, and the development of helpful resources for sponsors and educators. As a Public Health Nutrition Consultant, you will perform the following duties:

  • Program Support: Provide input and guidance to strengthen nutrition education and training programs for schools, childcare providers, and community organizations
  • Training Delivery: Develop training plans, prepare materials, and conduct sessions for new and existing Child Nutrition Program sponsors
  • Regulation Guidance: Interpret federal and state rules and help identify actions needed to meet compliance requirements
  • Review Assistance: Support administrative reviews by identifying non-compliance and helping sponsors create plans for improvement
  • Resource Development: Evaluate nutrition education materials and assist in creating age-appropriate curriculum and best practices
  • Outreach Planning: Help design outreach efforts to expand participation in programs such as the School Breakfast Program and Summer Meals Programs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. You will be required to report in-office on Thursday each week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $69,086.00 (before taxes).

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of professional nutrition or dietetics experience in a public health, education, social service, or closely related setting and a master’s degree in human nutrition or a closely related field.
