Job Description
Position Summary: The Public Safety Dispatcher serves as the primary communications link for the Department of Public Safety by receiving emergency and non-emergency calls for service, dispatching security officers and peace officers, monitoring alarms and surveillance systems, maintaining communication with field personnel, and coordinating responses with local emergency services when appropriate. This position requires sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Work is performed in a communications center operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Salary Range:
$19.63 - $26.00 an hour
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Job Requirements
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Experience: One year of dispatch, public safety, security, emergency communications, customer service, or related experience preferred. Experience in a public safety communications center. Experience dispatching law enforcement, security, fire, or EMS personnel. Experience using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management Systems (RMS), and access control systems. Familiarity with incident command principles and emergency management practices.
License/Certification Required: Driver’s License. CPR, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), or other emergency communications certifications preferrered.
Skills: Knowledge of emergency communications and dispatch procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during stressful situations. Ability to multitask while accurately prioritizing competing demands. Ability to interpret maps, building layouts, and campus or facility locations.
