About this role
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent international organization providing medical care to people affected by conflict, disease outbreaks, disasters, and social exclusion. The Publications Data Management Intern will maintain and improve the MSF Science Portal through publication data entry, data cleaning, SQL-based database updates, workflow organization, descriptive analysis, and support for website, dashboard, and communications projects.
What you'll do:
- Create a weekly list of new MSF-authored publications based on reviewing PubMed, Google Scholar alerts, and other data sources
- Enter journal publications and conference materials into the Science Portal database using the content management system
- Support the Portal team in improving data cleanliness, requiring direct queries to the database and updating data using SQL (Microsoft SQL Server) to conduct bulk updates or manual cleaning
- Support with optimizing workflow monitoring and efficiency, and project management
- Support communications and raising awareness of the Science Portal via public social media and internal platforms
- The team has various needs across data visualization, data management, and communications projects that the intern can work on, depending on their strengths and interests
What they're looking for:
- Current or recent graduate of a Master's level or higher program in public health or library sciences
- A variety of backgrounds will be considered with familiarity with scholarly publications and data management as the most important qualifications
- Experience with or keen interest in project and data management
- Experience with scientific/medical publications
- Experience with relational databases
- Experience working with published medical literature and scientific journals
- Experience with or keen interest in medical topics that MSF conducts research in
