About this role

THE POSITION

Join the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission as a Regional Outreach and Education Coordinator and help connect people with Pennsylvania’s aquatic resources and outdoor recreation. This role focuses on developing and delivering fishing and boating education programs that build skills and promote safe and responsible participation on our state’s waterways. You will collaborate with community organizations and other agencies to expand outreach opportunities that support angler and boater recruitment, retention, and reactivation efforts (R3). This is the job for you if you enjoy working independently and are passionate about teaching outdoor education and recreation.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Regional Outreach and Education Coordinator, you will be responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing, and supervising the delivery of aquatic resource, angler, and boater safety education programs in western Pennsylvania and statewide for the PFBC as assigned. Education programs under this position support the agency's mission, strategic plan, and R3 efforts (recruitment, retention, and reactivation of anglers and boaters) in Pennsylvania. This position primarily serves 9 counties in the northwestern part of the state, with additional focus on Lake Erie which presents tremendous R3 educational opportunities and supervises education staff from the southwest region. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Representing the agency at various public gatherings and promotional events
  • Generating lesson plans, curriculum, and presentations
  • Collaborating with agency personnel to ensure proper administration of grant funds
  • Supervising instructors, volunteers, and education staff
  • Acting as liaison for organizations engaged in aquatic resource conservation, recreation, angler education, boating education, travel, and related tourism

    Work Schedule and Additional Information:
    • Full-time employment
    • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
    • This position requires occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work. Travel may be required as needed.
    • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the regional office in Meadville.
    • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of professional experience in the administration, planning, or development of aquatic resources programs that included one year of experience in the development and implementation of aquatic resources education programs; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which must include one year of experience in the development and implementation of aquatic resources education programs.

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
