Research Assistant (Class IV)

Purpose or role of the position within the organization.

The purpose of this position is to provide research support in urban wildlife surveillance, ecological data collection, and analysis of wildlife presence and movement in New York City and surrounding areas in order to assist the Department in achieving its mission of advancing knowledge through research and scholarship, fostering excellence in education, and contributing to the public good, in alignment with Columbia University’s broader institutional goals.

Duties and responsibilities associated with the position and how they relate to the purpose or role.

The Eco-Epi lab (Dr. Maria Diuk-Wasser) is involved in a long term project, with the Urban Wildlife Information Network (UWIN), to track presence and movement of urban wildlife in New York City and the surrounding area. Student would contribute to tagging wildlife photos for data collection. This is a fully remote position. The length of term would be 3 months from the start date. 

General qualifications for the position and the specific qualifications for the various levels or rates of pay associated with the position.

Basic ecology and taxonomy knowledge, equivalent to 6 months of undergraduate ecology courses. Personal computer is a must.
