Research Assistant II - Hematopathology

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Research Assistant II is to provide routine technical assistance in performing assigned duties of various research projects

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Research Laboratory Functions

·         Slide Scanning:

§  Scan histology and IHC slides using whole-slide scanners

§  Label, name, and organize scanned images correctly

§  Upload and store digital slides in shared systems

·         Tissue, Block, and Slide Organization:

§  Organize paraffin blocks and glass slides by case and project

§  Maintain clear inventories of blocks and slides

§  Track tissue usage and slide recuts

§  Prepare and retrieve materials for LOTR lymphoma projects

·         Histopathology Requests:

§  Request histopathology items, including:

§  IHC stains

§  Tissue microarrays (TMAs)

§  Follow up on requests and confirm completion

§  Match completed slides to the correct cases and projects

·         Lymphoma Project Support (LOTR)

§  Support tissue organization for lymphoma research studies

§  Work with pathologists to identify appropriate tissue blocks

Record  Keeping

·         Record keeping of all lab work including experiments performed and database of samples received & processed in the ELN system.

·         Data Collection & Organization:

§  Collect and organize basic tissue and case information

§  Maintain spreadsheets or logs linking cases, blocks, slides, and scans

§  Keep project records accurate and up to date

General Laboratory Maintenance & Supplies    

·         Maintenance of general lab equipment.

§  Assist with preparing the lab for Lab inspections.

§  Prepares common laboratory stock chemicals

§  Submits all orders for the lab and maintains supplies inventory.

Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION

• Required: Bachelor's Degree Basic Science.
• Preferred: Master's Degree Basic Science.
• Preferred: Medical Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

• Required: 1 year Scientific or experimental research work experience. or
• Required: No experience required with preferred degree.
